Entertainment legend Danny, Ilkka Lipsanenthought this birthday would go smoothly at the villa in Rauma, but congratulatory messages started pouring into the phone as early as seven in the morning. Danny turns 82 today, Tuesday.

– Many hundreds of messages have already arrived. I am well received and grateful for them. Even people who have been in the industry for a long time, and with whom I have not dealt with before, have congratulated, Danny thanks.

He is celebrating his birthday very happily.

– I have been able to live my life healthy enough. When you know how much different diseases bother people. I only have a broken knee, nothing else.

At the end of August, Danny experienced a tragic setback when the doctor unexpectedly canceled the planned knee replacement surgery. Danny, who has type 2 diabetes, had too high of a blood sugar for surgery. Now Danny has been following a low-sugar diabetes diet for almost a month.

– Diabetes has raised my blood sugar high, and I’m not so focused on it, but now I have to focus.

The blood sugar level must be below six in order for Danny to be able to have a joint replacement. He measures his blood sugar four times a day.

– The diet has gone well. Now there is one more goal to strive for, to be able to graze in the meadows and travel in winter again. I just received a call from my brother in America and an invitation to go there.

Danny hopes he can get another surgery appointment for November. The blood sugar value has been in a downward direction for almost a month.

Celebrating a birthday includes a very special treat.

– Helmi wants to make blinis for me. We eat different roe and onions with them. It’s my go-to food now that the crabs from this year have already been eaten. Now I can’t eat cake, it’s full of sugar and I have this kind of pressure on me. Now you have to get your blood sugar down and think about what you eat.

– I am grateful that Helmi has helped me for quite a long time. In time, he will then focus on his own life and his own studies.

In honor of his birthday, Danny and Helmi also travel to Turku to pick up a special valuable item that has been arranged as a birthday surprise for Danny.

New gigs are planned for autumn, but the cancellation of Retrojeng’s tour still saddens the star.

– They are more modest gigs than this Retrojeng tour would have been, but I don’t want to be the kind of employer who keeps an orchestra, but doesn’t go to gigs. I have incredibly talented musicians in the band.

Danny was supposed to perform on Retrojeng’s tour together Erkki Liikanen and Frederikin with. Frederik canceled the tour because he felt the promised gig fees were too small.

– I would have gladly given it to our Finnish audience, which I have been able to serve for 60 years. It would have been so great to have Erkki Liikanen on stage together with us. When you also don’t know how many years are still ahead.

Overall, Danny’s birthday mood is good and grateful.

– Thanks to all the congratulators. I am overwhelmed by the number of congratulations. Apparently, the creator has also given mankind slightly longer lifespans than before.
