Chargers safety Derwin James was ejected during the Monday Night Football game against the Indianapolis Colts after making an illegal helmet-to-helmet tackle on Colts catcher Ashton Dublin in the second quarter.

The incident came on second-and-second with 5:23 remaining in the second quarter as Colts quarterback Nick Foles tried to keep the drive alive. Foles pitched quickly, attempting a tempo attack on catcher Ashton Dulin, who took a hard hit to the head and neck area of Durwin James’ helmet as the latter tackled him – unacceptably hard -.
James was penalized for being unnecessarily tough and sent off shortly after. Dulin had to leave the field at half time with a concussion.

The incredibly tough tackle ended what looked like a solid showing from James in his first game since Week 13. The former All-Pro missed the last two games with a quadriceps injury sustained prior to Week 12.
James made an early impact in the game when he stopped Indianapolis’ third drive with an interception. When he was taken out of the game, James made three tackles, a pass save, and an interception.
