Hells Angels leader Lysander de R. must serve the full nine years of his prison sentence. The court in Alkmaar determined this on Tuesday. De R. was the president of the Haarlem chapter, a kind of department of the now banned motorcycle club.
41-year-old De R. has been in custody since 2018 for a long list of crimes, including leading a criminal organization, threats and extortion. According to the court, the Haarlem Hells Angels chapter, which De R. led, was a “tough and beastly chapter” and would be disruptive to society.
R. would be eligible to be released next year under certain conditions. But now he must remain in custody for the full nine years.
Last summer, De R. was to receive an ankle bracelet because he had served two-thirds of his sentence. This was put to an end when he was arrested in his cell just before his leave.
He was suspected of once again leading a criminal organization in prison, this time Hardliners. De R. founded this motorcycle club from prison, just before Hells Angels was banned.
OM: High chance of recurrence
Two weeks ago, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) demanded that he serve his full sentence. De R. was not present at the ruling.
Two weeks ago he called the Public Prosecution Service’s demand “ridiculous and excessive”. “I have always adhered to all the conditions inside,” he said. De R.’s lawyer called the new suspicions wafer-thin.
According to the public prosecutor, there are serious suspicions, such as extortion, threats, coercion and abuse. The chance of recurrence would also be high.
Due to the court’s decision, R. is in custody until mid-2027.
