“Hello Sister! What You Always Wanted to Ask”: Religious Sisters in Salzburg Invites All to an Open Forum

Salzburg, May 9th, 2023 (KAP) “Many people have a rather exotic image of ‘sisters’ or ‘nuns'”: This is what Gisela Porges, community leader of the Don Bosco Sisters in Salzburg, pointed out. In order to change that, on May 26th, from 3 to 6.30 p.m., spiritual sisters invite you to the initiative “Hello sister! What you always wanted to ask” in the mother house of the Hallein Franciscan Sisters (Kahlspergstraße 22a, Oberalm). At the first event of this kind, the nuns provide insights into their religious communities. Registrations are possible until May 17 at [email protected].

“We are often confronted with curious questions about our everyday life and our vocation. So we came up with the idea of inviting interested parties to be able to ‘officially’ ask all questions,” explained Sr. Porges in a broadcast on Tuesday. The concern is to bring the religious life of women into the conversation. In addition, although many people are unfamiliar with the topics of church, religion and spirituality, they have questions or are interested in people “who live from this very source”, said Sr. Porges.

Information will be provided on May 26th by the three sisters Maria Auer (Sisters of Mercy Salzburg), Gisela Porges (Don Bosco Sisters Salzburg) and Maria Annie Shori (Halleiner Franziskanerinnen Oberalm), who will also talk about the topic “Being myself in the love of God”. will lecture. The day ends with a round of talks and prayer.

The Order of the Don Bosco Sisters Salzburg was founded in 1872 in Piedmont by St. John Bosco (Don Bosco) and St. Founded by Maria Mazzarello. The Sisters of Mercy Salzburg – also called “Daughters of Christian Love” – were founded in Paris in the 17th century by Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Luise de Marillac to serve the poor. The Halleiner Sisters Franciscans are also very active in social work. The order was initiated in the 18th century by the founder Maria Theresia Zechnerin from Hallein, and currently has almost 100 sisters in the provinces of Austria, Bolivia and Argentina.
