The Hello Kitty and Friends Cafe and Sanrio Smile Shop open to the public on Friday in Universal CityWalk.
The Sanrio-themed cafe, the first of its kind in Los Angeles, is a must-see attraction with the giant sign featuring Hello Kitty’s signature bow welcoming visitors upon entering. Specialty sweets and drinks on the menu include the Hello Kitty mousse dome, signature birthday cake, a macaron set and more.
The half-dozen drinks are named after Hello Kitty and her friends: Hello Kitty Strawberry Green Iced Tea, My Melody Lemonade, Kuromi Berry Iced Tea, Tuxedosam Lemonade, Keroppi Matcha Coffee and Chococat Iced Mocha.
Visitors can choose any of the above options and leave, or take advantage of the outdoor seating available at one of the umbrella-covered tables with hot pink chairs.
The Sanrio Smile Shop offers a variety of collectible products featuring Hello Kitty and her friends, Cinnamoroll, Keroppi, Kuromi, My Melody, Badtz-maru and Chococat.
Next door to the cafe, the Sanrio Smile Shop offers a wide selection of Hello Kitty and friends merchandise. A new line of cafe-inspired merchandise will allow visitors to take an item home (apron, anyone?).
There’s also an in-store photo opportunity at the Sanrio Smile Shop. The mural of Hello Kitty and her friends and the mini statue of Hello Kitty driving a convertible make for a super cute image.
This store joins the Animation Studio Store, which also sells Hello Kitty-themed merchandise and is located inside Universal Studios Hollywood.
The debut of Hello Kitty Friends Cafe and Sanrio Smile Shop are the perfect way to celebrate the global pop icon’s 50th anniversary.
Universal Studios and the NBC-owned television stations operate under the same parent company, NBCUniversal.
