Lozenges, chewing gum, mouth sprays, patches, inhalers – nicotine replacement products can come in many forms. They all have one thing in common: When you quit smoking, you should replace the nicotine in the cigarettes you haven’t smoked and ease your withdrawal symptoms. The magazine “Öko-Test” (issue 1/2023) tested twelve nicotine replacement products for ingredients and effectiveness. Eight of them received the grade “very good”. The remaining four are just behind with the “good” grade. There was a point deduction due to the white pigment titanium dioxide. According to “Öko-Test”, the patches have the advantage of keeping the nicotine level constant and avoiding sudden withdrawal symptoms. However, chewing gum or lozenges work faster and give the feeling of “doing something”. The products can also be combined. By the way, nicotine sprays are the most expensive.
