Early this year, unexpected box office hits are shaking up the gaming world. Following Pal World in January, Helldivers 2 took over the baton of record-breaking box office success in February.
Helldivers 2, a game from Arrowhead Game Studio and SIE, is a 4-player co-op TPS game that moves the viewpoint from the previous top-view format to a back-view TPS and contains the story of fighting against bugs and automatons that threaten Super Earth.
As the various elements and gameplay became widely known after its release, many gamers began to take interest, and since then, the number of concurrent users has exploded as more people enjoy the game, and the game has become a box office success.
Helldivers 2 is currently in second place with close to 400,000 concurrent users on Steam, and developers are citing this as an unexpected success. At the beginning of the launch, the number of concurrent users on Steam was approximately 80,000, which was also the highest number of concurrent users at Sony’s Steam launch.
In particular, as this number of concurrent users excludes PS5 users, it is analyzed that the number of concurrent users is much higher.
According to the studio CEO, 1 million copies were sold in 3 days, making it the biggest hit among Sony PC games ever.
However, gamers continue to be dissatisfied with the game’s unexpected success, as various problems, including server connection problems, matching problems, and non-payment bugs, continue to occur. Accordingly, the developer also revealed that it is continuing to seek ways to increase server capacity.
Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 has been released simultaneously on PC (Steam) and PS5 and also supports crossplay.
