A serious accident occurred on the international road E-79 between Vratsa and Montana, BulNews reports.
A Skoda Favorit car with Vratsa registration was driving from Vratsa in the direction of Montana, when in the area of the village of Kravoder it suddenly deviated from its path and collided head-on with a truck with Sofia registration. The collision was so strong that the car went under the truck.
Witnesses to the accident called 112 and an ambulance, a fire brigade and a police patrol arrived at the scene.
After the car was taken out, it was established that only the driver, who died on the spot, was in it. According to unofficial information, this is about an 80-year-old man from the nearby village of Botunya.
The driver of the truck told the police that he was traveling to Vratsa when the car suddenly started in his lane. The driver did everything possible to stop, as evidenced by the long braking distance of the truck, but still there was a fatal collision.
It is very likely that the elderly driver of the car had a heart attack and therefore lost control of his vehicle.
Investigators are working at the scene of the accident and for this reason the traffic was temporarily suspended. Due to the severe accident, kilometer-long queues formed in both directions.
