Hell exists on this planet where a year lasts 18 hours

It is located 2,000 light years from Earth. NGTS-10b is the name of this “hot Jupiter”, an exoplanet 20% larger than Jupiter but whose mass is twice as large. She could live her last years.

It is a surprising discovery made by astronauts from the team of the astrology department of the University of Warwick installed in Chile, which published on Thursday February 20 a study in the Royal Astronomical Society. This exoplanet is 27 times closer to its star than Mercury from the sun. Result, it takes 18 hours to rotate around its star. And could crash against it.

On NGTS-10b, do not count on an alternation of day and night, a face is permanently in front with its sun, which makes it particularly hot. Count 1,000 degrees Celsius on its surface.

“Even if in theory the ‘hot Jupiter’ are easier to perceive thanks to their reduced orbit, those that can be seen every 24 hours are extremely rare. There are only seven out of a few hundred“says James McCormac, author in the physics department at the University of Warwick.

A condemned exoplanet?

Scientists are curious to know if the orbit of NGTS-10b is stable or if the exoplanet … will eventually crash into its star. Technically, we would then be able to see the death of a planet, several thousand years later, given the distance.

“Everything we know about the formation of planets tells us that they are formed at the same time as their star“says Daniel Bayliss, co-author of the study.”Everything indicates that this star is 10 billion years old and that this planet too. Either we are seeing the end of her life, or she manages to live longer than expected.
