On board the helicopter were a number of military top brass, including Lieutenant General Sarfraz Ali, the commander of Pakistan’s twelfth corps, which consists of approximately 30,000 personnel. He was to oversee flood relief work in the province.
According to local media, there were four high command officers with Ali on the helicopter. A total of six people are said to have been on board.
Local media reports that witnesses must have seen the helicopter flying low before it disappeared. Search crews have been dispatched for the helicopter, but local media report that the terrain makes it difficult. Motorcycles will also be sent out to help in the search.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has also tweeted about the disappearance.
Sharif tweets that the entire nation is praying that the crew will be found.
The helicopter was on its way from the regional capital of Quetta in Balochistan to Karachi. The helicopter had been out to help people affected by floods. Currently, 147 people have lost their lives in Balochistan due to floods and heavy rains.
