Helicopter falls into the sea in Key Biscayne in front of dozens of bathers – 2024-04-08 05:43:13

One person was injured after a Robinson R-44 helicopter fell into the sea on the afternoon of this Saturday, April 6, near Key Biscayne, in Miami-Dade County, Florida.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the incident occurred around 1:50 pm, a few minutes after the pilot reported having engine problems.

The ship fell into the water, avoiding causing harm to third parties, and only the pilot was on board, who was rescued by officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC), the United States Coast Guard reported.

At the moment, information about the pilot’s identity and health status has not been revealed, but it is known that he was taken to a local hospital in an unknown condition, according to the network. CBS.

For its part, the Coast Guard, which initially responded to the accident, had to rely on FWC due to the accident’s proximity to the coast. Now the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the causes of the incident.

This is the fourth accident related to aerial vehicles that has been recorded so far this year in this region, with a previous accident involving helicopters and two involving small planes in this area.

In late March, a helicopter crashed in the Florida Keys, leaving two people injured and hospitalized.

The ultralight helicopter, a two-seat MTO Sport model gyroplane, fell after taking off from the private Tavernaero airport in Tavernier Key, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Before that, also in March, a single-engine Cessna 172M Skyhawk plane crashed in the Redland area, southwest of Miami-Dade, around 6:00 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Also in early February, three people lost their lives after a small single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza V-35 plane crashed into a mobile home park in Clearwater, Pinellas County.

The craft crashed directly into a house, which was completely destroyed, and three more were damaged in the subsequent fire, Clearwater Fire and Rescue Department Chief Scott Ehlers said.
