Helicopter crashes in Colombia; nine soldiers die

Bogota. Nine soldiers of various ranks died today after the helicopter in which they were traveling crashed to the ground in a jungle region of northern Colombia, military sources reported.

The Russian-made MI-17 aircraft, which had recently been refurbished with used spare parts, was supplying food and supplies to troops operating in the southern region of Bolívar, a territory historically occupied by guerrilla fronts and paramilitary units.
