Heliane Canepa is co-owner of FC Zurich. She and her husband Ancillo have been running the Super League club for many years. One day, however, the owner couple will get out.
The 73-year-old announced this in a conversation with the Swiss women’s sports magazine “Sportlerin”. The club is not yet to be sold in the foreseeable future, but it is already clear that it will one day come to that. Heliane Canepa says: “We are fit, we are open to new projects, the next thing to do is to finally build the stadium in Zurich. How long it takes is a tragedy. And digitization is central, a lot of what is going fits me and keeps me young. The development in football is rapid, and I’m watching that with great interest. (…) But of course: at some point we will withdraw and sell the association, although we will certainly not sell it off somewhere abroad. ”
The FCZ boss also lets it through in the interview that she plays an important role in contract talks and new signings. She mainly focuses on the character traits of the players: “When it comes to a personal conversation with the player, I can bring in my experience as a former head of the company. I hired a lot of people in my jobs, and I’ve developed a very good feel for them. How the players look at you, how they talk, what their handshake is like, whether they can hold the gaze. They can all play football, but also the character, the attitude to life, the private background must match the FCZ. “
