The helicopter crashed near a Kindergarten (TK) outside the capital Kiev, Ukraine. At least 16 people were killed in this incident, including the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
As reported AFP, Wednesday (18/1/2023), a video circulating online shows the situation after the incident occurred on Wednesday (18/1) local time. Sounds of crying can be heard in the video, with fires seen engulfing the scene.
“In the city of Brovary, a helicopter crashed near a kindergarten and a residential building,” the head of the Kiev regional authority, Oleksiy Kuleba, said in a Telegram statement.
“When the tragedy occurred, the children and employees were at the Kindergarten. There were casualties,” he said.
Kuleba did not provide further details on the number of victims. More information was provided by the Head of the National Police of Ukraine, Igor Klymenko.
“In total, it is currently known that at least 16 people died,” he said.
Klymenko further stated that some of the dead were officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, including the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrsky. Klymenko, as reported CNNsaid nine victims were killed in the downed helicopter.
