The press: The 100th anniversary of the Salzburg Festival falls into a period of crisis. It currently looks like this: They take place with a reduced program. Can you outline what can be offered?
Helga Rabl-Stadler: Right now we want to set an example for the power of art in difficult times and have therefore not canceled, although it would be easier in organizational and financial terms. We will offer a different program than the one presented last year full of euphoria. We only know how different when the ordinance regulating rehearsals, orchestras and choirs will be published in the next few days. The devil is in the details. One thing is certain: When we play, there is “everyone”, because we want to celebrate his 100th birthday on August 22nd. On that day in 1920, Max Reinhardt described it on the cathedral square as a “temporary solution” for the start of the festival “as the first peace project”.
