The University of Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI) today participated in a symbolic action held around the Arjuna Wijaya Statue, Gambir, Central Jakarta. Will BEM UI still participate? demo 11 April tomorrow?
“Not yet (definitely coming), so far we are still determining it internally,” said BEM UI Chairman Bayu Satria when met around the Arjuna Wijaya Statue after the symbolic action, Sunday (10/4/2022).
For your information, the symbolic action that was held today was initiated by the Indonesian Student Alliance (AMI). Meanwhile, the initiator of the April 11 demonstration tomorrow is BEM SI (All Indonesia).
Back to Bayu. He said that his party would not interfere with other BEM policies. What is clear is that Bayu ensures that BEM UI will not stop voicing the aspirations of the people.
“So far we are open and give autonomy to each campus to determine. In principle, we will continue to voice, but indeed in this condition we give autonomy to BEM SI,” he continued.
There are three demands that were echoed by BEM UI in today’s symbolic action. First, asking President Jokowi to emphasize that the 2024 election will not be postponed and there will be no extension of the term of office. The second is related to economic inequality, and the third is about attacks on civilians that are rampant.
“In principle, the student movement will be a big bang to rebuke the government, to rebuke arbitrary powers,” said Bayu.
As previously reported, a number of students who are members of AMI held a demonstration around the Arjuna Wijaya Statue, Gambir. They demanded that President Jokowi firmly reject the discourse of postponing the 2024 election.
