To celebrate its 60th anniversary, the Korea Health Management Association (KHKH) held a commemorative ceremony at the Grand Ballroom of the Seoul Dragon City Hotel in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on the 7th.
Established in 1964 as the Korea Parasite Eradication Association, the Korea Parasite Eradication Association continued its public parasite eradication project, including surveying parasite infection rates among students and local residents, free medication, and health awareness campaigns. The domestic parasite infection rate, which had exceeded 80% at the time, was lowered to around 2% in the 1990s, and in 2001, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially announced that Korea’s soil-borne parasites had been completely eradicated. In addition, in the 1980s, a screening program was introduced and implemented early on, even though the concept of health screening was unfamiliar, in order to detect and treat chronic diseases that were gradually increasing at an early stage. In 1986, the name was changed to the current Korean Health Management Association.
Approximately 500 people attended the ceremony, including members of the National Assembly, public health and medical professionals, the Association of Health and Welfare Associations, former executives and retired employees, and personnel from partner organizations and related organizations. The event started with a pre-ceremony performance and continued with an opening ceremony, a commemorative speech by Kim In-won, Chairman of the Korea Association of Construction Industries, congratulatory speeches by National Assembly Vice-Chairman Hak-young Lee, and an awards ceremony including government awards. Additionally, in celebration of its 60th anniversary, the Korea Health Association declared a new integrated brand and delivered the 60th specialized vehicle for the disabled to the Sasang-gu Public Health Center in Busan and donations for treatment support to a Korean organization for patients with rare and incurable diseases.
Since the 2000s, the Health Association has been developing and implementing various health promotion programs that not only detect diseases early through health checkups, but also help prevent diseases from developing by detecting health risk groups with health risk factors. Currently, we are focusing on disease prevention activities, such as introducing artificial intelligence (AI) in health checkups. The health association announced that it plans to provide customized health management services using artificial intelligence and genetic information in line with the paradigm that is changing from preventing diseases to predicting them in the future.
Chairman Kim In-won said, “Over the past 60 years, KHK has written a history of challenging people’s health by achieving the legend of eradicating parasites and contributing to the establishment of a health checkup system.” He added, “We will continue to respond to the changing medical environment and become the best medical institution for the people. “We will walk our path as a good institution that realizes social values,” he said.
