“Heist”: this Polish film is a hit on Netflix and is inspired by a true story – Elle

A true UFO, “Heist” rises to third place in Netflix trends right now. The Polish film, directed by Michal Gazda, is attracting many viewers on the streaming platform. The story presents an unbearable suspense: at the beginning of the 90s, in order to be able to regain his former position as a police officer, a man played by Olaf Lubaszenko agrees to cooperate with a – young study. Together, they must get their hands on a group of robbers who recently attacked a bank. A mission for which they do not have much time because the authorities are afraid that the case will be recognized.

Many actors from the Polish perspective appear in the film, but who are not yet known in France: Olaf Lubaszenko, Jędrzej Hycnar, Wiktoria Gorodecka, Magdalena Boczarska.

The real story behind the movie “Heist”

“Heists” is inspired by a real news story and is based on one of the most tragic events known to Poland. On March 3, 2001, the city of Warsaw was marked by the Kredyt bank robbery. Mischief was organized with the help of the bank guard, Krzysztof Matusik. He brings in an associate who shoots the security guard. The guard, acting as usual, then allows the reporters to enter. The latter, Mariola Młynarska, Agnieszka Radulska and Anna Zembaty, have to get the money back from the safes. They find themselves surrounded by the three men, the guard along with Marek Rafalik and Grzegorz Szelest, displeased to find that the chests are nothing more than an unpleasant surprise unlike the expected loot . In a frenzy, the robbers kill the three workers in cold blood.

Polish media “Gazette” quoting the words of the prosecutor during the trial: “The accused committed a crime without the knowledge of Polish justice. They planned down to the smallest detail and killed four innocent people […] the reporters did not resist, they asked for their lives to be spared.” The criminals were arrested four months later and sentenced to life imprisonment in June 2002.

The newspaper “One Warsaw”reproducing the comments made in 2001 by the spokesperson of the Warsaw district prosecutor’s office, Małgorzata Dukiewicz: “We are shocked. During the visit to the site and the questioning, the suspects talked about the incident as if they were narrating from a detective film. ”
