Vienna – Ex-Minister of Education Heinz Faßmann becomes the new President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). The 66-year-old geographer was elected to the top position on Friday afternoon by the members of the Academy with an absolute majority, the OeAW announced. He will succeed the quantum physicist Anton Zeilinger in this function at the beginning of July.
