Het Nieuwsblad and Het Laatste Nieuws wrote in their Tuesday edition that AA Gent will not continue with Hein Vanhaezebrouck as trainer. Just before the match against STVV, Vanhaezebrouck was of course confronted with this rumor, but for once he did not serve clear wine.
According to Het Nieuwsblad and Het Laatste Nieuws, the decision to part ways has been taken for some time, but KAA Gent and Hein Vanhaezebrouck would wait until after the competition to officially announce it.
It was therefore completely in line with expectations that Vanhaezebrouck did not confirm the news before the match against STVV. “It’s a press story, I can’t say anything about it.”
“If necessary, I will communicate about it, but I will not comment on it now. But if the journalists want to write something of their own accord, then they will do so.”
In summary, Vanhaezebrouck subtly criticized the press. “Sometimes they’re right, sometimes they’re wrong. We’ll see what it is this time.”
