We are making progress with the new Neckar valley crossing on the A6 near Heilbronn. Now demolition work is pending – and this will lead to traffic obstructions.
On the A6 between Wiesloch / Rauenberg and the Weinsberger Kreuz near Heilbronn it’s all about. For several years now, the motorway has been expanded to six lanes over a stretch of over 40 kilometers. From June 26th, construction will take place between Sinsheim and Bad Rappenau – certain sections have to be temporarily closed. A new Neckar valley crossing is also being built for this purpose. And that also applies to Heilbronn.
It consists of two bridges: from the east it is a filigree steel structure around 510 meters long, which, in addition to the Heilbronn – Würzburg railway line, bridges one of the most important road connections between Heilbronn and Neckarsulm including the Neckar and Neckar canals. From the west, the Neckar foreland and the meadow landscape spanned by a prestressed concrete structure over 820 meters long. This is reported by the motorway operator ViA6West, which is carrying out the renovation.
Neckar valley bridge A6 near Heilbronn: Northern part of the motorway bridge will be demolished – closure
Now the northern part of the motorway bridge is to be demolished at the beginning of July – and for this purpose the Heilbronner Straße between Heilbronn and Neckarsulm must be completely closed in the area of the motorway underpass, according to the project company ViA6West. The cycle and footpaths are also affected.
The demolition starts on Friday, July 2nd at 8 p.m. and is expected to last until Monday, July 5, 5 a.m. Of course there will be a signposted diversion during this period. According to ViA6West, this takes place over a large area via the B27 or Kanalstrasse.
The motorway operator also makes it clear that access to the commercial establishments and shops on Heilbronner Straße is guaranteed at all times. If the work is completed earlier than expected, the operator wants to lift the blockage again as soon as possible.
Neckartalbrücke A6: When will the expansion of Autobahn 6 finally be finished?
The work on the Neckar valley crossing of the A6 near Heilbronn has been going on for quite a while – and there have already been complications. For example, the operator had to struggle with a construction freeze in October 2020 because two bridge piers had sagged.
Overall, the expansion of the A6 and the maintenance of the route will cost 1.3 billion euros. According to ViA6West, everything should be ready in summer 2022. If everything goes well, there will be three lanes plus emergency lanes in the direction of Mannheim and three in the direction of Nuremberg.
