Heikki Hursti, 70, known as a helper of the poor, has been sentenced to a suspended prison term for aggravated drunk driving. The issue was first reported by Yle.
The crime took place in the spring on Korsontie in Vantaa on April 9. Hurst was blown away. He had 0.66 milligrams of alcohol per liter of breath.
The limit for aggravated drunk driving is 1.2 parts per thousand, which means the driver has at least 0.53 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air.
Hursti confessed to the crime. In addition to the 45-day suspended prison sentence, he was sentenced to a 25-day fine, which will reduce his income to 1,100 euros. The judgment is not binding.
Iltalehti reached out to Hurst, who did not want to comment on his recent sentence until he has seen it himself.
– It was such a nasty incident that I don’t want to comment on anymore, commented Hursti in May, when Iltalehti asked him about the charge of drunk driving.
Hursti has been convicted of drunk driving before. In December 2021, the prosecutor imposed a 35-day fine on him for drunk driving.
Hursti is currently also charged with a health and food crime. The matter has been dealt with in the Helsinki district court, which has not yet given a verdict on it. Hursti has denied the crime. The prosecutor demands a fine for him.
In the years 2005–2019, Hursti was the executive director of the Veikko ja Lahja Hursti Laupeudentyö ry founded by his parents, after which his daughter Sini has led the association. Heikki Hursti is currently the deputy executive director of the association.
The association that offers help to the poor is better known as Hurst apu. Heikki Hursti currently works in the association as deputy executive director.
