Government officials in Ireland fear that tensions could reach a fever pitch at the Citywest transit hub, which has been closed to new arrivals since January, during the fast of Ramadan. Over 730 people currently sleep at the hub, but projections suggest that by mid-April, there will be a shortfall of 1,228 beds. Those already accommodated face being left without beds, with officials warning that some single men and couples living in hotels whose contracts end may not be offered new accommodation. The situation may worsen next month as it is expected that demand will outstrip the number of hotel beds brought in via new contracts.
Heightened tensions possible at Citywest transit hub during Ramadan, officials caution.
