Heidenheim – 1. FC Heidenheim is back in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga.

The team of long-term coach Frank Schmidt defeated bottom FC Ingolstadt 04 at the start after the winter break deservedly 2:1 (1:0) and advanced to the relegation place with the fourth home win in a row.

There, the Swabians are only three points behind second-placed SV Darmstadt 98 with 33 points. Robert Leipertz (30th minute) and Tobias Mohr (51st) scored in front of 500 spectators for the overall superior hosts. Christian Gebauer equalized for the guests with a header (47th).

Durable ball for FCH keeper Stojanovic

Ingolstadt started in the starting XI with winter newcomers Dejan Stojanovic in goal and Hans Nunoo Sarpei in midfield, but coach Rüdiger Rehm’s team played harmlessly and without passion before the break.

While the new number one Stojanovic was powerless when Leipertz headed to make it 1-0, he let an actually harmless shot from Mohr slip through his hands to make it 2-1.

Stojanovic also made the mistake at a time when his team was finally becoming more aggressive and offensive. Heidenheim then had the game under control again and missed the 3-1 when Norman Theuerkauf’s shot was blocked on the line (60′). In the end, Ingolstadt threw everything forward, but failed to score.
