Hého Promoted on Social Networks to Strengthen French-Speaking Community in Halifax – CCGH

Hého promotes its platform on social networks like Facebook.

A year ago, Hého celebrated its official launch. Since then, those responsible for the platform have done a lot of work to promote it within the community. Today, it is in the development phase for its future.

Some 510 users have been connected since the launch and many regularly receive newsletters regarding activities on the platform.

“It’s really a showcase of the French-speaking world of Halifax,” explains Marina Turbide, communications and marketing coordinator for the Grand-Havre Community Council (CCGH).

It is thanks to more than 20 partners, including the Alliance Française and C98 radio, that Hého has been able to evolve so much over the course of the year.

She adds that the platform has had a positive effect on the community, by increasing networking opportunities. “Members of the community now have access to organizations that they may not have known about,” explains the coordinator, including the CCGH itself.

The resources were there, but the connection point was missing, notes Ms. Turbide.

Hého has allowed several newcomers to find themselves in the metropolis and within the French-speaking community, observes Marina Turbide.

They made new acquaintances, new friends and new hobbies. “It’s seeing the community gain so much with Hého. »

Something new for Hého

In 2024, Hého plans to develop the community level of the platform, which includes the “On jase” corner, the aim of which is to ask questions to the community to stimulate discussions between users and better understand the French-speaking services available.

According to Marina Turbide, this section is not used to its full potential and deserves improvement. “The goal of Hého is for it to be a meeting point for everyone, for all French speakers. We chat, it was to come and help this cause. Let people have a discussion area with other French speakers. »

The CCGH has already considered developing an application. Unfortunately, this is a very expensive and laborious project, due to the multiple updates required. “Maybe in 10 years we will be there, maybe five years, we don’t know,” she said. But, for the moment, we are trying to rely on social networks. »

Hého’s current priority is the organization of its consumer marketing campaign. It also wants to improve its newsletters, by offering options to personalize them, according to users’ interests.

In March, during Francophonie Month, the CCGH wishes to obtain the opinion of Acadians and Francophones in Halifax in order to improve its platform.

It’s to shed light on users. “We are going to try to do the big survey, to find out what people want to do in 2024. Do they want to go outside? Do they prefer indoor activities? Do we want to focus on education, on learning, have more classes or do we want more relaxed activities? »

Making humor shine

The next big CCGH event will be the Just for Laughs Gala, which will be held on Thursday, January 25 at the Marquee Ballroom in Halifax with three comedians: Luc LeBlanc and emerging artist, Anabelle Hébert, as well as Quebec Drag Queen Mona de Grenoble.

“It’s very important for us to have diversity all year round, in all our shows, and especially in comedy because we often see white men in comedy and, for us, that’s “It’s important that it has more than that and that we present other things,” comments Marion Cousin, CCGH programming coordinator.

The room where the comedy show will take place is reserved for people aged 19 and over. Ms. Cousin mentions that it is not easy to find rooms in Halifax that are accessible to minors.

The CCGH is exploring the possibility of organizing master classes with comedians for young people from French-speaking schools. “It’s complicated because a lot of funding was cut this year for a lot of things, so it’s always a bit complicated to organize that,” she explains.

On September 21, CCGH presented a comedy show with comedians from the Maritimes region such as Vivian Herbreteau and Moussa Sangaré-Ponce.

Mona from Grenoble is one of the comedians who will be part of the Just for Laughs Gala on January 25 at the Marquee Ballroom in Halifax.
