One week after the reopening, festive Norwegians still provide enough work to the police districts around the country.
In the Troms police district, there were a total of 60 logged inquiries between 9 pm on Saturday night and 6 am on Sunday morning. In comparison, there were 40 logged assignments in Oslo, Asker and Bærum.
– We can call it the Christmas table season and May 16 and stuff in one. There have been a lot of people in the city, says operations manager in Troms, Karl Erik Thomassen.
He emphasizes that most of them have behaved properly, but that there has been a lot of partying and drunkenness-related disturbances and incidents of violence.
– It has been more than normal. Also more than a normal Saturday before covid, says Thomassen.
Hectic in the capital
In Oslo, there were also a lot of people out, and the police have staffed up to keep calm and order. Operations Manager Gjermund Stokkli says it has nevertheless been less chaotic than the reopening weekend.
– My impression is that the night has been calmer than last week, but we have had enough to do. Overall, an active night until Sunday, but not as hectic as last weekend, says Stokkli.
He points out a slightly more serious incident from the night. Around 3 o’clock, a person in Bærum was hit hard and suffered head injuries. No arrests have been made so far, but the police have opened a case.
– There has been a lot to do. We are back to normal, states the operations manager.
Back to normal
Incidents of violence, drunk driving and party noise have also affected the night for the police in Trøndelag. In Trondheim, long queues and pressure were reported ahead of the opening of the nightclubs.
At 4.24 the night was summed up: five brought in for arrest, five reports, 15 expulsions and three health assignments related to intoxication.
– It has gone smoothly throughout the district. Comparable to last weekend, says operations manager in Trøndelag, Stian Aalberg.
Also in the police districts of Agder, Sør-Øst and Innlandet, there has been both rioting, fighting and partying, and the condition is described as almost normal – before the pandemic.
