Heavy vehicle sector has a negative September, reports Inegi

Mexico City. The heavy vehicle sector reported a mixed balance at the end of September 2024, due to the annual drop in production and export of units, while sales showed a slowdown compared to September 2023, figures from the National Institute of Statistics revealed. and Geography (Inegi).

At the end of September 2024, the heavy vehicle industry in Mexico exported 12,459 units, which represented an annual contraction of 11.96 percent, after two consecutive annual advances.

According to the Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry of Heavy Vehicles (Raiavp), production amounted to 16,860 heavy vehicles in the ninth month of 2024, 2.79 percent less compared to the same month last year, after three advances. to the thread.

Likewise, retail sales reached 5,165 units, 15.81 percent above those reported in September 2023. While wholesale marketing totaled 5,587 units, 21.96 percent annually.

In its sequential variation, exports of heavy vehicles fell 23.33 percent in September compared to August 2024, while production decreased 22.55 percent monthly. Meanwhile, retail sales fell 4.42 percent monthly in the ninth month of this year; while wholesalers fell 11.64 percent monthly.

Contraction in nine months

In the period January-September 2024, 123,857 units were exported, which represented a contraction of 7.98 percent compared to the same period in 2023. The main market was the United States, with a share of 95.4 percent. Canada, 3.4 percent, while others 4.6 percent.

In the first nine months of the year, the 12 companies that make up this registry assembled 162,096 heavy vehicles, which represented a drop of 3.56 percent.

During the January-September 2024 period, the production of heavy vehicles in Mexico was concentrated in cargo vehicles, which represented 96.4 percent of the total. The rest corresponded to the manufacture of passenger buses.

At retail, 42,294 vehicles were sold between January and September of this year, 10.59 percent more compared to the same period in 2023. At wholesale, 45,153 units were sold, 11.88 percent higher than the same period last year.
