The current warning of the Czech Chamber of Commerce and Industry is valid from Tuesday until further notice. According to meteorologists, Monday’s temperatures in central, northwestern and southwestern Bohemia and southern Moravia will exceed 31 degrees Celsius.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, they will increase even more, and very high temperatures will primarily afflict the South Moravian Region from Tuesday.
“On Tuesday (August 13) and Wednesday (August 14), the influx of warm air will intensify, so temperatures will reach above 31 °C in most lower and middle locations, and in the south of Moravia, temperatures will even exceed 34 °C. Even in the second half of the week, temperatures will rise above 31 °C,” said the ČHMÚ.
On Tuesday afternoon and evening, strong storms with slow progress may occur in the west and south-west of the Czech Republic, especially in mountainous areas. Up to 40 mm of rain may fall. “In repeated storms, even more. Hail up to 2 cm and wind gusts up to 20 m/s (70 km/h) can appear in them,” meteorologists warned.
The storm warning applies specifically to the South Bohemian, Pilsen and Karlovy Vary regions.
Due to the high temperatures, meteorologists recommend limiting physical activity and strictly following the drinking regime to avoid dehydration. People should also not leave children or animals in cars parked in the sun, where the temperature can rise significantly in just a few minutes.
