Heavy thunderstorms, gusts of wind and hail: code orange for much of the country

Only Zeeland, Brabant and Limburg seem to be getting out of hand.

At first, the second heaviest weather warning only applied to North and South Holland, which are currently covered by the heaviest thunderstorms, but the KNMI soon decided to extend the warning.

The showers will move from south to north:

The KNMI gives code orange if there is a high risk of ‘dangerous or extreme weather with a major impact and a risk of damage, injury or a lot of nuisance. Code orange can be issued 24 hours in advance if the chance of extreme weather is 60 percent or more.’

very local

Meteorologist Maurice Middendorp of Buienradar explains that the severe weather is often very local. Things can go wild in one place, while nothing seems to be wrong a few kilometers away. This is what the sky looks like above Heerhugowaard at the moment:

Storm damage

The Utrecht Security Region has already received ‘dozens’ of reports of storm damage in the Leersum area. It concerns blown down trees and blown roof.

Last night a complex of thunderstorms passed over the country. The inconvenience of that was okay.
