Heavy rains wreak havoc in North India, maximum devastation in Himachal, PM Modi took stock of the situation

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reviewed with senior ministers and officials the situation arising out of excessive rains in different parts of India. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) gave this information in a tweet. The PMO said, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to senior ministers and officials and reviewed the situation arising in the wake of excessive rainfall in some parts of India. Teams of local administration, NDRF and SDRF are working to ensure the well-being of the affected people. In many parts of the country including Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi, a situation of flood and waterlogging has arisen due to heavy rains on Sunday.

In many parts of Punjab and Haryana, life was thrown out of gear due to heavy rains for the third consecutive day on Monday. The administration is working 24 hours to reach the people in the affected areas. According to the Meteorological Department, it has been raining in many parts of Punjab and Haryana since morning. In some affected areas of Haryana and Punjab, the administration has already issued holiday orders for schools. It is raining heavily in many parts of Punjab. The Patiala district administration has sought the Army’s help after the water level in the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal in Rajpura city swelled due to a breach.

Rain wreaks havoc in Himachal Pradesh, hundreds of people stranded
Himachal Pradesh received ‘heavy to very heavy’ rain on Sunday, leading to landslides and flash floods. During this, many areas were submerged, roads, vehicles and houses were washed away and six people died. The state authorities have ordered the closure of schools and colleges for two days. After torrential rains, 765 roads including the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway were closed. Hundreds of people are stranded in different parts of the state, including Chandratal in Lahaul-Spiti and Sadhupul in Solan district. More than 30 houses have been completely and partially damaged. All major rivers including Ravi, Beas, Sutlej, Swan and Chenab are in spate.

Flood threat looms over Delhi
The Yamuna water in Delhi has crossed the warning level of 204.5 metres, threatening the low-lying areas with floods. Delhi received 107 mm of rain in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Monday. Commuters had to face trouble on Monday morning due to water-logging on the roads. The Pragati Maidan tunnel was closed for traffic on Monday due to waterlogging.
