Macassar –
Flood submerged almost the entire city of Makassar, South Sulawesi (Sulsel) today. The height of the Makassar flood water is even as high as an adult’s neck.
“So far, the water level has been monitored up to the necks of adults. That is in the area next to the canal near our office in Kerung-Kerung,” said BPBD Makassar Chief Executive Ahmad Hendra Hakamuddin, as reported by detikSulsel, Monday (13/2/2023) .
Hendra said the flooding was caused by heavy rainfall since last night. Then it was also exacerbated by the occurrence of rising sea water.
“Rainfall which is quite high since last night has been relentless. And then also the high tide so that this causes flooding throughout the city because the flow of water that should be discharged into the sea, the sea water is also rising, so it happens like this,” he explained.
Furthermore, Hendra said that this condition would likely occur until this afternoon because the sea water would return to the tide. His party hopes that the rainfall will not be high in the afternoon because it can exacerbate flooding in Makassar.
“According to monitoring it will occur until the afternoon. Because in the afternoon it will also tide again. So we hope that the rainfall will not be too high in the afternoon because if it is high again in the afternoon this will make Makassar City worse,” he said.
