“Due to storm damage, there will be delays and train cancellations in northern Germany and North Rhine-Westphalia until at least Monday afternoon,” said Deutsche Bahn on Saturday afternoon and called for travel to and from Hamburg and Bremen to be avoided.

According to the railway, there will be no long-distance trains north of Dortmund, Hanover and Berlin until at least 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Until then, ICE trains on the Cologne – Hanover – Berlin route will also be canceled, as will ICE trains between Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe and Berlin.

Some restrictions no longer apply. Long-distance traffic in North Rhine-Westphalia, which was largely paralyzed until the early afternoon, has started again. Long-distance trains are also running again between Leipzig/Halle (Saale) and Berlin.

When ICE/IC trains from Frankfurt (Main) or Berlin to Amsterdam will be in service again, however, is still not foreseeable.

According to the German train the storm period of the past few days has already caused damage to the railway network over a length of more than 1000 kilometers. They appeared in particular in Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Bremen, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia.
