On Friday evening a heavy fire broke out along the Deinsesteenweg in Drongen. The garage of Kraanverhuur Danneels burned out. A heavy blow to the owners. “We had been working on this for 34 years. The life’s work has gone up in flames. ”

Around 10 pm Friday evening, the Ghent fire brigade had to move to the Deinsesteenweg, near the entrance to the E40. The garage of crane rental company and garage owner Danneels was ablaze.
The havoc is great. Several cars and a van went up in flames. Car tires catching fire resulted in some explosions. The crane truck that is normally rented out is badly damaged. The adjacent house of owner Carlos Danneels and his wife has been rescued by the fire brigade, but there is considerable water damage. (read more below the photo)

“We were at home when it happened,” says Danneels’ wife. “It went very quickly. My husband walked into the garage to save our motorhome. ” Carlos Danneels was slightly injured: he contracted smoke intoxication and had to be taken to AZ Jan Palfijn. (read more below the photo)

Especially the emotional damage is great. “My husband has been working on this for 34 years now, he is two years from retirement. The garage was also recently renewed inside. His life’s work has now gone up in flames. ” The date could not have been chosen worse. Friday was the birthday of the deceased son of Carlos and his wife.
For the time being, the couple will stay in his motorhome. They can go to friends for food and a comforting shoulder.
Fire expert
The fire is now under control. On Saturday morning, the fire brigade had to extinguish the fire. It is still unclear what caused the fire. The public prosecutor’s office of East Flanders appointed a fire expert to investigate the exact circumstances. He arrived on the scene on Friday night and continued his research on Saturday morning.
