The alarm about the fire came just before 03:00 on Thursday night. The fire-affected premises is approximately 100 by 100 meters in size, the rescue service estimates.
– There are two giant ships, and a narrower part. Then two parts that stand out from it, says Peder Helmer, officer on duty at the rescue service Östra Götaland, when he describes the property.
– Half was burnt out when we got there. But unfortunately most of it will burn up, he continues.
Extinguishing the fire on Malmgatan all morning
At an early stage, there was a certain risk of spreading, according to the rescue service, but by 05:00, neighboring buildings had been secured. LPG cylinders that were in the fire-ravaged building have been removed and the cordons in the area have been reduced.
– We are limiting the fire and keeping it under control now, says Peder Helmer about the extinguishing work on Malmgatan, which is expected to last all morning.
During Thursday afternoon, the rescue service announces that they are working on subsequent extinguishing and that two units remain on the scene during the evening.
Investigated as aggravated arson
The police have opened a preliminary investigation into aggravated arson.
The emergency services or the police currently have no information that there should have been people on site when the fire broke out. Nor any information about any injuries.
