“Heather” starts equipping gas stations with solar panels / Article

Heather plans to gradually equip several other network stations with solar panels. The company’s calculations show that the installation of solar power plants in at least half of the “Viršu” stations will provide about 0.5 megawatts of capacity, which will rank the company among the largest Latvian solar energy producers.

Jānis Bethers, Head of Business Development at Viršu, said that gas stations are an excellent place to use solar energy, as their electricity consumption is stable around the clock. The station will thus also be able to provide direct deliveries within its internal network from solar panels to electric car chargers.

“This means that we will guarantee a large part of our customers’ electric car charging electricity entirely from renewable energy sources.

That is why “Heather” in Brocēni is the first, but not the last, of our station, which will be able to provide itself with this renewable and sustainable energy source. We have a clear vision and plan for the active implementation of solar energy solutions in 2022 as well, ”emphasized Bethers.

The company is happy to use solar energy because it is not only environmentally friendly, but also economically advantageous. Bethers outlined that filling stations would be a complex example of a microgrid in the future. “Within the built connection network, we will have several large and variable electricity consumers – electric charging, CNG or compressed natural gas compressors, as well as stable store consumption and additional solar panel systems.

In the future, we plan to increase the capacity of the solar panel system and also install electricity storage batteries,

to be able to efficiently store the produced electricity and use it when it will be needed, for example, by charging several electric cars at the same time. In this way, we will not only take care of a greener environment and prudent use of resources, but also gain a degree of independence from fluctuating electricity prices, ”Bethers outlined his future plans.

For the implementation of the plan, “Virši” plans to direct part of the capital raised in the initial public offering (IPO). The company plans to attract new capital in the amount of 6.9 million euros, directing it to the improvement of the supply and infrastructure of alternative fuels, promoting the availability of compressed natural gas (CNG), biomethane and LNG (liquefied natural gas), as well as electric vehicle chargers in Latvia. It is also planned to pay significant attention to increasing the sustainability and efficiency of the company’s operations, incl. for the installation of solar power plants.
