Heather Hewitt, the treasurer of Glenway Riding Club, has died following an incident involving a horse at the Glenamaddy Equestrian Centre in Co Galway last Thursday. It is believed the incident occurred while a horse was being mounted. Ms Hewitt, who was in her 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene and a Health and Safety Authority member has visited the site. The incident is being treated as a tragic accident. She is survived by her husband, daughter, parents, sister, stepchildren and extended family and friends. Hewitt was formerly from Crowborough, East Sussex, England and her funeral will take place in the UK at a later date.
