Heath Ledger couldn’t sleep that winter night. He hadn’t slept in a long time anyway, though that was all he wanted at the time. The tired body rebelled against its owner. it was already at the breaking point of the mix of drugs swallowed like candy. Then the 28-year-old added a handful of sleeping pills, grabbed the phone and dialed his sister’s number. His last words were, “Katie, Katie, I’ll be fine.”
On January 22, 2008, the landlady found Ledger unconscious, naked on the bed. In the blink of an eye, the police arrived, and the doctor summoned to the apartment could only throw up his hands and pronounce him dead. The artist died “as a result of acute intoxication caused by the effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine”. Forensic medics also emphasized that “the manner of death was accidental and resulted from the abuse of prescribed drugs.”
Heath’s ex-partner Michelle Williams was working on a film in Sweden when the tragedy happened. They parted because she wanted stability, also for their 2-year-old daughter Matilda, and he couldn’t sit still. Only later did he realize what a huge mistake he had made.
It was said that he wanted to win back his beloved, but whether he would have succeeded can only be guessed. It is certain that he died alone, although he was dating Mary-Kate Olsen at the time. Interestingly, he spent the last moments of his life with her… The famous twin referred to the tragedy dryly, Michelle still cares about Heath’s memory.
Ledger has always had a type: cute blondes with sparkling eyes. For two years he was in a relationship with the model Christina Cauchi, with whom, as he said, he fell madly in love. Assurances of a sincere feeling appeared in June 2001, but soon the actor lost his head to his colleague Heather Graham. They showed up together for nine months, and then each went his own way.
The great love of the star turned out to be a compatriot Naomi Watts. The media quickly became interested in the couple, mainly due to the fact that the Australian was 11 years older than her beloved. And although it didn’t bother them at all, the cruel comments did their job. The lovers parted amicably in May 2004. Four years later, Naomi mourned Heath’s death, saying that grieving was “an extremely difficult experience”.
