Whereas the strong heat is felt everywhere in France and that temperatures show ever-higher numbers, it is only natural that the French seek fresh air for their holidays in August. In any case, this is what the latest ranking of the most popular destinations during this month on the Airbnb rental platform, reports the magazine GEOthis Wednesday.
The Doubs, a popular department
According to the company, the Augustians mainly headed for the Doubs, in Burgundy Franche-Comté, to have a good time. The department had already seen the biggest spike in staycation searches on the platform for the month of August. Then come the departments of Tarn, Alpes-Maritimes and Jura. These places are known to be home to large green spaces, numerous rivers or beaches as well as mountains. In order, the rest of the ranking is made up of Loir-et-Cher, Seine-Maritime, Manche, Eure, Haute-Savoie and Côte d’Or in tenth position.
In terms of accommodation, the so-called dwellings “unique” are also on the rise. For example, “tiny houses”, farmhouses, castles and barges have seen their reservations increase by more than 60% in France, and by 50% worldwide, over the past two years. In 2021, more than 250,000 nights were booked solely in “tiny houses” in France, specifies Airbnb. The cities where these reservations were made the most are Porto-Vecchio (Corsica), Hyères (Var), Les Mathes (Charente-Maritime), Alès (Gard) and Saint-Mesmin (Dordogne).
