Heat and storms expected – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – For this Tuesday, the residents of our area will have the opportunity to enjoy a calm and warm Tuesday. However, the happiness will only last for today.

This is because dangerous heat and chances of storms are expected to affect the area on Wednesday. The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat watch for much of New Jersey. That advisor will likely be in place from noon to 8 p.m. Meanwhile, there will be a heat advisory for New York City and Westchester County.

Check the latest severe weather warnings here.

It’s not just the temperature on the thermometer that will cause the heat: Wednesday’s humidity will also increase, adding to the wind chill approaching triple digits.

Along with the heat comes the threat of isolated thunderstorms, from strong to severe. Straight line winds and hail appear to be the biggest threats at this time. That cold front will bring temperatures back into the 70s on Thursday.

Looking ahead, temperatures will remain moderate for the rest of the 10-day forecast. We have another chance for showers and storms on Saturday as the second cold front of the week moves through the area. The rest of the Labor Day weekend should be warm and mild (although it certainly won’t be a pleasant weekend for commuters).

Temperatures will remain in the 70s and 80s through Labor Day weekend and into early September, giving us the start of fall that will really feel like it.
