Heat and few rains predicted by experts for Cuba in August

The Climate Center belonging to the Cuban Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) made its forecasts for the coming August. It turns out that the eighth month of the year will be very warm and will bring little rain. He INSMET announced that it will not be a rainy period, mainly due to the marked influence of the North Atlantic Anticyclone on the Cuban archipelago. Hence, hardly any rainfall is forecast for the closing of the summer season on the Island.

Meanwhile, experts agreed that showers and thunderstorms will occur, mainly during the afternoon and early evening. This is associated with the passage of tropical systems, such as waves and lows, as well as diurnal warming.

The most striking fact, in a negative way for Cubans, is that cyclonic activity on the island will increase in August.

However, they also recalled that the most critical stage for the country in this regard is from the second half of September.

sweltering temperatures in summer

During the most recent weeks, INSMET reported that the highest temperatures so far in 2023 have been “suffered” in July.

In fact, a new record was set in the town of Jucarito, Granma, last Sunday when the thermometers reached 39 degrees Celsius.

In early July several weather stations had reported maximum temperature records in the midst of the intense heat that plagues Cuba.

At the time, INSMET released the news. “Confirmed the maximum temperature records that occurred in the meteorological stations of: Güira de Melena, Artemisa with 36.2 ºC, Aguada de Pasajeros, Cienfuegos, with 36.7 ºC, Pinares de Mayarí, Holguín, with 33.1 ºC”.

The previous weekend, a cloud of dust from the Sahara passed through Cuba, which caused a notable rise in temperatures. The phenomenon prevented rainfall.
