Open Arms, a non-profit organization dedicated to boat people, shared heartbreaking images filmed in the Mediterranean last week. The volunteers helped refugees whose boat had sunk, but a stranded mother was unable to find her six-month-old baby. The desperate woman cries out in the shocking video.

Open Arms was able to locate baby Joseph moments later. He was no longer breathing, but could be briefly resuscitated. A few hours later little Joseph died after all.
The nonprofit is spreading the heartbreaking images to draw attention to the dangers the refugees face while crossing the Mediterranean. Open Arms also criticizes Europe’s policy of using fewer rescue ships to help boat people in distress.
