Attention, spoiler! This case contains details from Sunday’s episode of “The Farm”.
For almost six weeks, the “Farmen” participants have experienced what farm life at Fredheim farm has to offer, and the viewers have been able to witness both the ups and downs of the gang.
After an unusual “Farmen” week, without either big farmer, helpers or duels, this week, however, ends with a tough message for one of the participants.
In Sunday’s episode, the mood at Sørlandsgården turns gloomy, after participant Bård Kristiansen (52) receives a dramatic message from home and withdraws from “The Farm”.

Will not appear either when Kristiansen receives the message, or when he tells the other participants that he is withdrawing. In the episode, viewers are informed that Kristiansen has returned home from the farm due to an incident at home.
– Things were going crazy
Nettavisen meets Kristiansen in Oslo a couple of weeks after the “Farmen” final has been decided and the recording has been completed. It has been almost two months since he left the “Farmen” adventure, and there is no doubt that it has been a difficult time for the Kristiansen family.
– I had put on my fine shirt and for once fixed my hair to go to the market, when I am taken out of production and get the message about my son. After that, it’s almost completely black for me, recalls Kristiansen from the day he left the farm.
The reason why Kristiansen had to return home from Fredheim farm and Kristiansand in a hurry was because one of his two sons, Sander (23), was admitted to hospital on the night of 6 September with an acute brain haemorrhage.
– Things were going really crazy, says Kristiansen.
The “Farmen” profile says that the 23-year-old son is an active man, but that he has sometimes suffered from headaches. It is therefore not unusual for him to take a Paracetamol every now and then, but this time it was different.
On the evening of 5 September, the headache is so severe that the 23-year-old’s mother, who happened to be visiting her son, had to take him to the emergency room.
After examinations at the emergency department, the son was sent to hospital where he lost consciousness and was placed in an artificial coma, says Kristiansen, who at this point is still unsuspecting inside the “Farmen” farm.
– If Janne (the son’s mother, journ.anm.) hadn’t happened to visit him that evening, it is not certain that he would have been here anymore, says Kristiansen.
Didn’t understand the seriousness
At Fredheim farm, Kristiansen and the other participants had been through an unusual week with many competitions, when Kristiansen was taken out of production and told what had happened at home.
The 52-year-old says that he was able to talk to his roommate, Janne, on the phone, but that he did not realize the seriousness of the situation. If it were up to him, he would continue his stay at Fredheim farm.
– I didn’t quite understand the seriousness, and asked Janne if she couldn’t just call again after they saw how it went. At that point, I probably don’t really realize that it has already melted, and that Sander is on his way to the Rikshospitalet to operate, says Kristiansen.
However, remaining on the “Farmen” recording was never an option from the production side, and Kristiansen had to leave Fredheim farm and “Farmen” in a hurry. He didn’t even have time to pack his bag. It was done after he had left.
From there it was straight to Oslo and Rikshospitalet, where the family was reunited after “The Farm”, in completely different surroundings than they had first imagined.
– There was supposed to be a moment where we were just happy to see each other again, but it was just chaos and uncertainty, says Kristiansen.
– Everything that could go wrong did go wrong
From the day Kristiansen left the “Farmen” farm, and until his son was discharged for the last time, five weeks passed.
For the first few days, the son was in and out of the operating room, and it took several days for him to regain consciousness. What awaited him when he awoke was never quite certain.
– We didn’t know what woke up. What state would he wake up in? Would he even wake up? In that phase I wasn’t very high on my hat, says Kristiansen, who today is very happy that the 23-year-old woke up like his old self.

After the first operation, several complications arose for the 23-year-old. It was five long weeks with admissions, operations and a lot of both ups and downs for the family, before they finally got their son home for good.
– Everything that could go wrong these weeks went wrong for Sander. He has had to endure a lot, says the “Farmen” profile.
Nettavisen has been in contact with Bård Kristiansen’s son, who has approved the mention of him.
Sad for the production and the viewers
That Kristiansen had to withdraw from “The Farm” says TV 2 press manager Jan-Petter Dahl that is sad for both the production and the viewers, but says they understand that he had to go home.
– Bård has been a great and inspiring participant that both the production and the viewers have come to love, and we think it is sad that he had to leave the farm, says Dahl to Nettavisen.
Dahl emphasizes that the participants’ well-being is always the most important thing for them, and that they have been concerned that Kristiansen should feel well looked after throughout this process.
– Bård has been followed closely ever since he left the farm. Above all, we are happy that this has gone well for Bård and his family under the circumstances.
The remaining participants were also closely followed up by the production after the shock announcement.
– The remaining participants were gathered for a joint chat with the production where they were able to talk well together. They were also offered further support if needed, says Dahl and adds:
– The participants found the greatest support in each other, and they should be praised for the way they handled this together.
He felt ruined for his father
Today, Kristiansen’s son is well looked after by the family, while he gets back on his feet properly.
The last few weeks have undoubtedly taken a toll on Kristiansen, and says it may have been coincidence that caused the son to still be here.
– If Sander had gone to bed the night the headache came, it is not certain that he would have woken up again.

Although Kristiansen initially wanted to stay at Fredheim farm, there was of course never any doubt that he had to get home to his son when he first understood the seriousness of it on 6 September.
However, he can say that the 23-year-old himself has felt guilty because he was the reason why dad had to go home from recording.
– He has struggled a bit with the fact that it happened just when I was at “The Farm” and that I had to leave, but of course he has no reason to.
That’s why it wasn’t filmed
In Sunday’s episode, as mentioned, it does not appear on the TV screen when Kristiansen received the message from the production, or when he tells the other participants that he has to go home.
The only thing that is filmed is when Kristiansen walks up to the farm after he has received the message, where he expresses that he does not want to be filmed.
Press manager Dahl tells Nettavisen that out of consideration for Kristiansen and the situation, the production chose not to film when he said goodbye to the others.
– Out of respect for Bård and the seriousness of the situation, we chose to keep the camera outside when Bård said goodbye to the other participants. They had this moment to themselves.
