Heart under the belt for ex-cancer patients

VEGHEL – Many people find it difficult to live with chronic cancer or the consequences after successful cancer treatment. The vast majority of these people suffer from complaints such as fatigue and concentration problems. Their environment often does not think about this or does not understand how they can be of support. That is why the Veghel organization ‘Shit or Shine’ is organizing the special card action #eensparklevoorjou. In doing so, she gives everyone the opportunity to support ex-cancer patients.

Shit or Shine was founded in October 2020 by the Elsbeth Slippens from Veghel. “I noticed that there was little or nothing for women who are in cancer follow-up or who have to live with chronic cancer. When I researched what information was available, I noticed that the focus was often on what is not possible. I want to focus on what is still possible and how you can achieve that and shine again. You can choose whether you focus on the ‘shit’ or on the ‘shine’. That is how the name of my platform was born.”

#eensparklevoorjou

Shit or Shine is an online community for female cancer survivors or those living with chronic cancer. It contains experience stories and background articles, free tips and e-books, but also training courses to be fitter and more positive in life. Especially for Cancer Survivors Day on June 5, Elsbeth launches a special card action† “This day has been around for 35 years, but it is still quite unknown in the Netherlands,” explains Elsbeth. “The day is mainly to celebrate life with or after cancer. Anyone can send a card (with a bag of tea) via our website to someone who is living with or after cancer. Not just around June 5, but all year round. I also hope that as many people as possible will support someone via social media with #eensparklevoorjou on June 5th.”-
