Heart Disease Targets Young Ages, These are Tips from UGM Cardiologists

JAKARTAHeart disease is the deadliest disease in the world. Heart disease or cardiovascular disease is still the leading cause of death in the world, resulting in 18.7 million deaths per year. Not only attacking those over 35 years old. Those who are still under 35 years old can also experience heart disease even though they look physically healthy and fit.

Heart disease specialist Gadjah Mada University (UGM) dr. Dyah Samti Mayasari argues, taking care of the heart from an early age is very necessary. Not only to prevent the occurrence of factors that increase risk but also to detect heart disease early so that it can be handled as early as possible.

According to him, if someone is asked and chooses, of course, no one wants to suffer from heart disease. “Therefore, have we taken care of the heart properly? Because maintaining the heart cannot be separated from a healthy lifestyle,” he said, launching UGM’s official website at ugm.ac.id, Saturday (11/13/2021).

Broadly speaking, according to him, a healthy lifestyle in the form of a healthy diet, not smoking, exercising regularly and maintaining weight are things that must be done. In addition, conducting examinations as an early detection of risk factors and avoiding stress.

Dyah Samti suggested that a low-fat, high-fiber diet and fruits and vegetables will help reduce LDL levels as “bad cholesterol” and increase HDL levels as “good cholesterol”.

In addition, he suggested reducing salt consumption to a maximum of 5 grams (1 teaspoon) a day and preventing packaged drinks with sugar sweeteners.

“Consumption of nuts is also recommended as much as 30 grams per day, but the nuts chosen are those without salt. It is also recommended to eat fish 1-2 times a week, while the consumption of lean red meat, low-fat dairy products and vegetable oil is limited,” he said.
