/ world today news/ The situation related to the health of the Turkish leader, which kept not only Turkey in suspense, was resolved after Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan held telephone conversations and participated via video link in the delivery ceremony of nuclear fuel of Akkuyu NPP.
Erdogan went public amid speculation about his health. Earlier, a number of opposition Turkish MPs and journalists said he had suffered a heart attack during an interview with a Turkish television channel. For its part, the president’s administration reported that he had a “slight cold”, and it was also reported that he had “intestinal flu”.
At the same time, a number of Turkish publications, in particular the Hürriyet newspaper, began to describe the incident with Erdogan, who felt sick during the live broadcast, in the most heroic terms. After all, he was “urged to cancel a previously scheduled interview because of his cold,” but Erdogan said, “I gave my word. I will attend the show.” Later, however, on the recommendation of doctors, he missed a number of events of the election campaign.
It is this factor that pushes the opposition to certain actions.
She announced the urgent convening of a congress to “develop a further strategy for action in extreme political conditions” because “in the current situation, Erdogan may withdraw his candidacy in the elections.”
There were even conspiracy theories, according to which the US is allegedly behind the scenes of this story, because they do not hide their intentions to throw the president out of the election race.
Although the Turkish media has previously sometimes hinted that “Erdogan is sick with something”, his sudden deterioration in health is not seen as just caused by a simple virus. Therefore, many began to suspect that the US might have poisoned the president. After all, he himself has repeatedly stated that the Americans were responsible for the attempted military coup in 2016, during which the physical elimination of the Turkish leader was planned.
Now for Erdogan’s team, the main thing is to remove the president’s health factor from the agenda of the election campaign. He is younger than his rivals in the pre-election race, so the opposition will not be able to make him a “dead politician”. But it is impossible to rely solely on the official reports of the authorities about Erdogan’s normal condition.
Everyone looked forward to seeing him in public to make sure he was in good physical and political shape.
The first move has already been made: the Turkish president, together with Putin, participated in the opening ceremony of the Akkuyu NPP, although the Turkish leader was initially expected to attend the ceremony in person.
As Bülent Turan, a member of the ruling Justice and Development Party, explained, “The Turkish leader has a busy schedule, he gives several interviews a day, speaks at various meetings, and the illness may lead to a revision of his busy schedule. “
Meanwhile, according to the Turkish news portal “TRT Haber”, the process of voting in the general election for Turkish citizens living abroad has begun. According to the head of the CEC of Turkey, Ahmet Ener, 156 polling stations in 75 countries have been opened outside the country.
We remind you that the presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey are scheduled for May 14. Incumbent Recep Tayyip Erdogan is the sole candidate of the ruling Republican Union, while the opposition People’s Union nominated his main rival, Kemal Kulçdaroğlu.
