The exponent of the Lega dei Ticinesi was 62 years old and was in his third term. He told friends he was preparing for the New York marathon
lasted less than 24 hours the agony of Marco Borradori, the mayor of Lugano who was the victim of a heart attack on Tuesday morning while jogging in a park on the outskirts of the Swiss city. Sixty-two years old, a member of the Lega dei Ticinesi, Borradori had been at the helm of the city administration since 2013 and was in his third term. He was one of the most popular political figures in the canton.

The conditions of the mayor had appeared desperate from the beginning to those who had provided first aid: Borradori had already been found lifeless by a passer-by. He was in cardiac arrest and only thanks to a massage performed on the spot the heart was restarted. Transported to the Cardiocentro of Lugano, the mayor survived until the afternoon of today only thanks to the help of machinery; the specialists had immediately found very serious damage to the brain and other vital organs. Borradori had told his friends that he was preparing to participate in the New York marathon.

Borradori was a parliamentarian in Bern in the 1990s and was subsequently elected to the State Council of the Canton of Ticino. Within the Lega dei Ticinesi he represented the wing considered more moderate and less extremist on issues dear to the movement, starting with that of relations with Italy and the boom in frontier workers in the canton of Ticino.
