French President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist alliance (Together) is expected to win about 25% of the votes in today’s first round in the French parliamentary elections, slightly less than the left. This was announced tonight by the Belgian newspaper Libre, citing two exit polls, Reuters reported.
According to the publication, the alliance of left-wing parties New Ecological and Social People’s Union (NESNS) led by Jean-Luc Melanchon will reach between 25.7 and 25.8%, while the far-right “National Assembly” of Marin Le Pen can take 18.5 to 19.3 percent.
The center-right Republican Party will have between 11.6 per cent and 14.0 per cent, the newspaper said.
Libr did not specify which sociological institutes collected the data, nor did it provide details of their methodology, Reuters reported.
Other publications cite the exit polls of four polling agencies, which show that Macron’s “Together” will win between 225 and 310 seats. after the second round of voting on June 19, and the new left-wing coalition will finish second with an estimated 150-220 seats.
However, it is unclear whether Macron will have a majority, as he needs at least 289 of the 577 seats in the National Assembly to have a majority to pass laws during his second five-year term.
According to Ipsos turnout was at a record lowas 52.8% of the registered voters did not vote.
