A few weeks ago, the municipality renewed its sports health program for seniors. The aim is to support people who want to keep fit but also help them relieve various pathologies, such as joint pain or diabetes.
This action is led by Claire Wendling, municipal sports manager, who welcomes a group of fourteen participants, aged between 60 and 80, each week (excluding school holidays). It is in the Plaine des Sports clubhouse that these girls carry out joint exercises every Wednesday to work on range and coordination of movement, as well as breathing exercises and games to stimulate memory. Soft exercises, during which the participants are closely accompanied by their instructor.
These sessions, completely free, will last until June, when the participants will go to the municipal swimming pool to take advantage of the benefits of the water. These aquatic sessions can make for good stories, as Claire confided: “Last June, during these sessions, a lady suffering from aquaphobia discovered the joys of the swimming pool”.
The sessions take place in a friendly atmosphere. “The aim is to practice physical activities in a friendly atmosphere. These sessions are a weekly meeting that the participants enjoy attending”. And the host to continue: “This activity helps maintain these people’s social bond, which is important for their psychological well-being.”
And the session on Wednesday 14 December, the last one before the holidays, was no exception. Each participant had brought something to share as a snack after the exercises. And the Christmas obligations, they had all brought a small gift, which was distributed by drawing lots.
Sports sessions for the health of the elderly will resume in early January.
