There is always the recommendation to eat a healthy and balanced diet. Especially in old age, when nutrient deficiencies can occur. But what exactly is a healthy diet? What and how much can be on the table?

Seniors will find out about this on November 13th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the information event on the topic of “Healthy nutrition in old age” in the Diakonie day care Schwaan. Peggy Pruhs, who works as a dietitian and nursing assistant in the Diakonie, passes on her extensive knowledge. The lecture is also interesting for relatives who prepare meals for their parents or grandparents.

You will find out which foods are particularly healthy and when deficiency symptoms can occur. In older people, the sense of thirst and sensory perception changes, and physical changes also lead to a lack of vitamins or minerals. “That’s precisely why it’s important to have a varied diet,” says Peggy Pruhs and presents the food pyramid in Schwaan, which provides guidance as to which foods belong on your plate. She also gives tips on how large portions should be and explains what consequences an unhealthy diet can have.

The event takes place in the Diakonie day care Schwaan, right next to the Diakonie social station, at August-Bebel-Straße 11 in Schwaan.
