How important is hand washing actually? What role do viruses and bacteria play and how can you avoid infection? Sagrotan’s program for better hygiene in schools and kindergartens has the right answers to questions like these. The “Healthy Detectives” education program is playful and easy to learn about how our youngest children can protect their health and well-being – and thus reduce infections. Fewer infections, more fun learning and playing. The numbers underline that the initiative is well received and successfully accepted: children who took part in the program wash their hands around 20 percent more often, even at home.* After schools, Sagrotan is also launching the program in Germany’s kindergartens this fall and daycare centers.
In parallel to the updated education and information materials for primary schools, Sagrotan, with the support of professional educators, has prepared new, appealing material in images and text specifically for kindergartens, with which the behavior of one to six year olds can be positively promoted. This is even more important because at this age there is even more interaction, such as direct physical contact, between children. In addition, this phase is particularly ideal for establishing and solidifying routines – especially when it comes to hygiene and the need for regular hand washing. To achieve this, Sagrotan works together with the renowned association “More Time for Children” and the school marketing agency DSA youngstar.
Introduce and establish hygiene habits early on
“The aim of the Sagrotan ‘Healthy Detectives’ program is to make a contribution to promoting healthy habits together with the partners. In addition to the primary schools, we are now also consistently involving the daycare centers. Because apart from the home, they are the first place where Our children learn to wash their hands regularly and thoroughly and recognize the effects of their own behavioral changes. With ‘Healthy Detectives’ we want to promote long-term hygiene habits at an early age in order to prevent illnesses that are passed on to families – in a child-friendly, playful way and easy to understand,” says Michaela Kuhndörfer, Marketing Director DACH and Nordics at Reckitt. And Simone Linden, managing director at Mehr Zeit für Kinder e. V., adds: “When creating the new daycare materials, it was important to us to involve the educators and take into account their needs on the subject of hygiene education. For this reason, we conducted a survey of the target group in advance so that The results were incorporated into the development.”
Because Sagrotan is known for providing proven solutions to break chains of infection, the brand also supplies free no-touch soap dispensers to participating kindergartens. With the Sagrotan No-Touch soap dispenser with motion sensor and refills, even small children can wash their hands independently and have a lot of fun thanks to the attractive Paw Patrol designs, with partner Paramount at their side. The newly launched program is intended to reach more than 800,000 girls and boys of kindergarten age starting this fall. With Sagrotan, around 84,000 school classes with 2.52 million students were reached within the three program years. Now, with the continuation in around 20,000 additional classes, the 3 million mark is to be exceeded.
High satisfaction rate among teachers – a third fewer sick days
The brand asked primary school teachers how well the Sagrotan campaign – with stimulating content from handwashing posters to coloring in school buses to handwashing songs – has been received in Germany’s schools since 2021. With an outstanding result: 94 percent of those interviewed were satisfied with the content provided, according to DSA youngstar. And over 80 percent of parents found the program useful because it increased the frequency of handwashing among children.* According to the parents of children who participated in the program, sick days were also reduced by a third. Finally, the parents were also provided with valuable tips and information so that the whole family can protect themselves as best as possible at home and on the go.
Background: In Germany, 80 percent of infections are transmitted via hands. A single sick child in a classroom can infect around 13 classmates, according to several Purpose reports for Sagrotan. And a sick child not only worries their parents – it also results in additional effort and stress for families because the parents cannot do their jobs and care for their children.
The Sagrotan education program “Healthy Detectives” is visually supported and is available free of charge at gesunddetektive.de is available for download, with an informative spot running for six weeks until the beginning of December on TV and on YouTube (Sagrotan Purpose) can be experienced.
